Chinatown Area

The street is named Gang Lombok because once here once there are a lot of plants chili (chili) planted on the edge of Kali Semarang. Originally the ships entered the city through this river to deliver the goods to the warehouses on the riverbank. But the silting of the river becomes a major problem in the 18th century and should continue to be dredged river. Starting at the end of the 19th century this river can no longer be used to transport goods. River became shallow and troughs river used to build houses. As a result, when the heavy rain, the water can no longer flow and Chinatown neighborhood flooded. In the 90s of the 20th century, the government decided to evict the buildings, the river widens and makes the examination on both sides. Since then Chinatowns never again hit by flooding, but unfortunately many historic buildings had to be demolished. Around the temple there is a concrete replica of a ship in a river at Admiral Cheng Ho, when he reached the coast of Java. This replica is placed here in 2005, during the commemoration of 600 years of this event.

The original is in the Chinatown area, but in 1771 moved to its present location. This temple dedicated to the Dewi Kwan Im, goddess of compassion in Buddhism. This temple is the most important building for the Chinese community in the old city. At the time of the great days in the front yard of pagoda held a lion dance and puppet potehi pertunjunkkan. On the roof of the pagoda there are two dragons, who protect pearl paradise. Outskirts of rooftops dotted with images of people and animals made from shards of pottery. The entrance is guarded by two statues temple and a pair of lion statues guard the empire (diteras). In the circular windows on either side of the main entrance there are the images of dragons. In the main altar there is a statue pagoda Dewi Kwan Im, with three pictures of Buddha behind her. On the left is a statue of Cheng Ho (also called Sam Po). This statue is annually carried in procession to Sam Po Kong at Simongan. This tradition was born in the 19th century, when it was Sam Po Kong in Simongan not open to the public. On the right side is a statue of Dewi Kwan Im Thian Siang Seng Boo, protector of sailors. In the space left there are statues Kong Hoe Tjoe (Confucius) and Hok Tek Cien Sien (earth goddess).

According to history, advance ship Cheng Ho never crossed the river right in front of this temple. That's why now there is a replica of the ship that is deliberately placed in the river to be reminded of this story.

The mosque is located in Jl.Petolongan no.1, which is a small street in the segment Jl.Pekojan. From afar, the tower-style mosque Rennaisance architecture looks quite prominent. Johar Market was first designed in 1933 by Ir. Thomas Karsten. Fasadenya remind us there is the Art Deco architecture. That said, the market was once renowned as the largest and most beautiful market all of Southeast Asia. This market is like a traditional market, selling a wide range of needs for food and household needs. There was some controversy surrounding the revitalization Pasar Johar. The city administration had wanted the original building Pasar Johar dismantled and rebuilt in accordance with the wishes of investors' original form, but in the end, they do not overhaul the revitalization of heritage buildings Pasar Johar, for cultural heritage should never be dismantled.

Kauman Mosque is located in the western central square, located close to some markets, this mosque seems hidden. Its presence is marked by a towering minarets. Adopting the mosque roof shape pyramid shape which is typical of Javanese architecture building. This mosque had stood since the 18th century but suffered a fire in the 19th century. At the end of the 19th century mosque was rebuilt. On the back gate of the mosque, there is a kind of inscription taped to the wall. Indonesian first inscriptions using the old spelling that it tells about the history of this mosque, the mosque was burned due to lightning on April 11, 1885. Three other inscriptions in Dutch, Arabic, and Java has a different meaning.
