Lawang
Sewu (literally means a thousand doors) and was formerly the
headquarters of Spoorweg Nederlandsch-Indische Maatschappij (NIS). In 1873 NIS opened the first railway line in the colonies, from Semarang to Solo and Yogyakarta. The head office was designed in the Netherlands in 1903 by J.F.Klinkhamer and B.J.Ouëndeg. First stone was laid in 1904 and the opening made in 1907. Mandala Bhakti Museum
The building is from 1930 and was designed by E. Khür working in Landsgebouwendienst (Department of State Development) and a museum of military struggle.
